Over the past few years, blood donor clinics have been appealing to the general public to donate blood. Their slogan: “Blood. It’s in you to give”. What a true statement! Blood doesn’t just keep us alive, but it’s also saves others’ lives through blood transfusions. This slogan is also a great illustration about our lives “in Christ” and the life of Christ in us. Jesus tells his disciples to give freely what they have freely received from God, specifically speaking of God’s power and gifts at work in us. What a tremendous reality that we often forget! We’ve all been given gifts of God’s grace to serve one another and bring the good news of Christ to people. It’s not anything we can boast about, because the gifts come from God by the Holy Spirit, not from anything we have done. And it’s not something we can ignore, for God will hold us to account by what He’s given us. The gifts are for us to use and fan into flame in order to give the message of Christ and build up His Church. Today, may God open our eyes so that can see what God has given us for the purpose of giving the message of Christ to others, and giving glory to God!
