Many people today have a different understanding of “church” than what is revealed in the book of Acts.  More than likely, it is based on first impressions and experiences.  But the Church of Jesus Christ is similar to what the Bible refers to as the Kingdom of God, which is the rule of God in the hearts and lives of people.  And where you have a group of people seeking first the Kingdom of God together, you have a church, or a Kingdom community.  Over the centuries, churches have looked quite different from one another, in their own expressions, beliefs, cultures, and contexts.  Thank God we have the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to show us whether we as a church are beholding and reflecting the glory of Christ.  The prayer of Apostle Paul to the Thessalonians puts it well:  “We pray… that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Let this be our prayer today, because when the “rubber hits the road”, our lives are about having Jesus be glorified in us.
