THIS YEAR AGAIN I bring you the Ten-Point Checklist of Spiritual Progress. The purpose of this list is not to create guilt but rather to be a mirror that helps you make the necessary adjustments in your spiritual journey and inspire you toward further spiritual growth. As you go through this list you may find yourself drawn to one or two of the items more than to others.  These would be the ones you may want to focus on and see how the Holy Spirit is encouraging you to grow in those areas.

1.             If you believe
1 John 5:13--I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
2.             If you obey
1 John 2:3-5--We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him.
3.             If you are overcoming the influence of the world
1 John 4:4-6--You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.  They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.  We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.  This is how we recognize the spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
4.             If you are developing habits of righteousness
1 John 2:29--If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
5.             If you love the brothers and sisters
1 John 3:14--We know we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers.
6.             If you have the inner witness of the Spirit
1 John 3:24--Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them.  And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.
7.             If you follow the example of Jesus
1 John 2:6--Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus walked.
8.             If you remain in the Word
1 John 2:24--See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you.  If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.
9.             If you long for Christ’s return
1 John 3:2-3--Dear friends, now we are the children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.  But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
10.           If you are truly a citizen of heaven you will rejoice over the salvation of lost souls.
Luke 15:10--In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

************
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
(2 Peter 3:18)
